When it comes to laws in the US, it’s a country that’s proud of how it protects its citizens. The fact that so many states have yet to legalise online gambling is, to some degree, about concern rather than trying to simply ruin everyone’s fun. Most people in the country are law-abiding and do their best to stay on the right side of the line, but it can get a little frustrating when you look at some of the legislation that actually exists. Let´s take a look at some of the most bizarre gambling laws in the US.

Gambling is legal in states such as New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia. Though, all of the states that we’re going to look at frown down on online gambling. Bear that in mind as you take a look at the other things that have been legislated for and that they’re quite happy to allow:

Bizarre gambling laws in Alabama

Online gambling is a big no-no in Alabama. There are concerns about how it could morally corrupt people and so there is little chance of it being given the green light. While online gambling may be illegal, what’s perfectly acceptable in Alabama is mating your first cousin. There are just 18 other states who are happy with this practice. The remainder, along with the rest of the world, tends to find this a little bit more taboo.

If you’re looking to enjoy online casinos then Alaska isn’t the state for you. However, if you want to be somewhere that feels the need to write a law that allows you to keep the meat of dead wild animals then this could well be the place to go. In fact, it’s not that you can keep the meat – you must! If you kill any wild animal you must salvage the meat so that people can eat it.

Don’t worry about the fact that you can’t gamble online in California. The lawmakers have certainly made up for this by allowing you to own any number of live frogs for frog-jumping contests. It’s also legal to own pretty much any species of snake in this state. 

Bizarre gambling laws in Florida

Another state that doesn’t allow online gambling but does legislate for the benefit of its residents in other ways. Here, you’ll be pleased to know that you can legally break wind in a public place, just be sure that you only do it after 6 pm though. You can also gorge on as much cottage cheese as you like but you’ll be breaking the law if you include it in your meals past 6 pm on a Sunday.

Georgia

There’s no online gambling here but the good news is that the law allows you to live on a boat for 30 days. Just make sure that you don’t go beyond this limit though as you may find yourself in hot water!

Hawaii

This is a state that’s keen to protect its residents from the potential harm that could be caused by online gambling. What it’s not so keen to protect its residents against are the horrors of car accidents. Here, you can ride in the back of a car without wearing a seatbelt. If there are no seats to sit in, you can also ride in the bed of a truck. Safety and protection seem to have gone out of the window!

Idaho

While the legislators in Idaho have been unable to pass laws that will allow online gambling in the state, you can rest assured that they’ve still been busy. In fact, they’ve been so busy that they’ve been dealing with contentious matters such as being able to ride a motorcycle until you’re 88. The good news is that this is now perfectly legal.

Indiana

This is another state where you’re not allowed to gamble online. However, if you’re a fan of riding horses around the street then you’ll be pleased to know that they have you covered. The law states that you can ride a horse up to 10mph. Let’s hope that horses in Indiana are fitted with speedometers.

Kentucky

No online gambling but the law allows for another gamble if you want to take it: you can legally marry the same man twice. Whether or not you’d want to is quite a different matter.

Maine

You will find that online gamblings not allowed here either however, you can have a dog on a lead that is as long as eight feet. If that’s not an attractive enough law to get you to visit Maine, you may be pleased to know that you can carry a shotgun at all times, even when attending a church service.

Massachusetts

You can forget online gambling here but you can apply for a license to become a fortune teller. All that you need to do is live in the state for a year and you’re good to go.

Missouri

Missouri isn’t the place to visit if you want to place an online bet. However, if you’ve ever had the desire to shave while you’re driving this is the state for you. You’ll need to apply for a license first though!

North Dakota

you may not be able to gamble online in North Dakota but they have provided laws that allow residents to enjoy themselves in other ways. Here, you’re permitted to exterminate pigeons and you can also shoot fireworks as long as it’s not gone 11 pm.

Oklahoma

While Oklahoma may be lacking laws that can fulfil your desires when it comes to online gambling, it does have laws that can help with other desires. Namely, your desire to spit on grass. If you have an overwhelming desire to do so then it’s perfectly legal.

Utah

There’s no entertainment to be had by gambling online here. However, the law allows you have fun in other ways by throwing rocks at cars. You’ll need the owner’s permission first though!
