Legal US Blackjack states

Legal US blackjack states – New Jersey – Launched November 2013

Back in 2013, the Atlantic City economy was in less than an ideal situation. It’s down to the state of the economy that NJ became the first state to make online casinos legal. The bill was passed in February 2013 and the first operators were welcoming players before the year came to an end.

New Jersey is now one of the biggest states when it comes to online casinos. There are over 20 operators to choose from and the selection of games is nothing short of outstanding. You’ll find that all of the top casino games are there and you can even try your hand at online bingo.

Legal US blackjack states – Pennsylvania – Launched July 2019

It took almost six years before Pennsylvania joined NJ by being a state that offered legal online casinos. Having witnessed the success that had been enjoyed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania wanted its share. The state actually passed its iGaming bill back in 2017 but it took an incredible 18 months before operators were up and running.

While this state may have been slow off the mark, it has certainly made up for things since. There are now more than 10 online casinos to choose from as well as some impressive land-based establishments.

Legal US blackjack states – West Virginia – Launched July 2020

This state passed its bill to allow online casinos back in 2019 but, just as was the case with Pennsylvania, West Virginia experienced some delays. This meant that the first online casinos weren’t launched until 2020.

The way that it works in West Virginia is that each of the five land-based casinos is allowed to hold a licence to operate online casinos. Each of these is permitted to operate a maximum of three sites. This means that, at most, West Virginia will be able to enjoy 15 online casinos once all of the licenses have been issued.

Legal US blackjack states – Michigan – Launched January 2021

Michigan appeared good to go with online casinos back in 2019. However, delays came into play and no operators launched until 2021. This is in an area that offers an array of land-based casinos with three commercial operators and over 20 tribal casinos.

The maximum number of online casinos possible in Michigan stands at 15. This is because each of the three commercial operators is allowed to launch sites along with 12 tribes that are federally recognized.

Legal US blackjack states – Connecticut – Launched October 2021

While online casinos are now legal in Connecticut, the offerings are somewhat limited. As it stands, there are only two operators in the state: DraftKings and FanDuel. This is because these operators have formed partnerships with the two tribes in the state.

Will there be more operators in the future? We’d like to think that would be the case but for now, all we can do is wait and see.

What casino games can be played online?

When it comes to the choice of casino games that are available, this will vary in each state. Local laws dictate the types of casino games that are allowed and this can mean that the same operator has different catalogues of games available in different states.

If you’re looking for the best range of games, this is likely to be found in New Jersey. This is because this is the most mature of the iGaming markets in the US. As you look across the states, the types of games that you’ll generally find include:

Online slots

When it comes to online casinos, you can be sure that you’ll find a great range of slots. In fact, there’s a good chance that most operators will offer you hundreds of titles to choose from. One of the great things about slots is that they look pretty amazing on mobile devices too.

Online blackjack

We’re sure that every online casino in the US will feature this table game. Why? Well, blackjack is an all-time favorite and it’s one of those games that players wouldn’t accept a lack of. The game is great to play and is extremely easy to learn. It’s a game that works exceptionally well online and players can’t get enough.

Online roulette

This is another game that is a must at all online casinos. While it’s extremely popular at land-based casinos, it makes the move online very well and players can enjoy variants such as American, European and French. The latter two come with a low house edge and this means that they’re favored by most players.

Online Baccarat

An extremely simple game and one that can be enjoyed on a tight budget. Pretty much all online casinos offer this game as it’s one that can be enjoyed by everyone no matter how deep, or otherwise, their pockets are.

Online craps

Playing craps in real life has a great communal feel to it but that’s not to say that the online version should be ignored. By playing online you can play at a pace that suits you as you get to grips with the game. You won’t find craps offered at all online casinos so if it’s a game that matters to you be sure to note down where you find it.

Many more…

As well as the popular games that we’ve already looked at, you’ll also find the likes of video poker, Pai Gow, bingo and even scratch cards. The choice of games is almost endless and there’s plenty to suit all tastes.
