Playtech Quantum Blackjack vs Quantum Blackjack Plus

From Quantum Blackjack to Quantum Blackjack Plus

As we’ve seen, Playtech has put its focus on Quantum Blackjack and given it a significant update. Part of this has even seen a slight change to the name with Quantum Blackjack becoming Quantum Blackjack Plus.

If you’ve played Quantum before, then you’ll know that this is a game that’s all about multipliers. The original version gave players the opportunity to land a maximum multiplier of 1000x. While that opportunity was certainly appealing, the chances of it ever happening were always on the slim side.

While this new update will be of interest to fans of Quantum, if you’re new to the age it’s still well worth taking a look at what these changes mean. However, for this to make sense to you, you’ll need to have an understanding of how the game originally worked so we’ll take a look at that now.

A look back at Playtech Quantum Blackjack

Something great about Quantum Blackjack is that it brings an added level of excitement to the game. What’s even better is that it manages to do this without overcomplicating things. If you’re a fan of traditional blackjack then there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy this version. The game is played the same but has one rule change – a winning player’s hand becomes a push when the dealer busts with three cards.

At the beginning of a game round, multipliers are assigned to five randomly assigned cards. If a player is dealt any of these cards then the combined total is then applied to the initial stake as the payout out for if the hand beats the dealer.

This aside, the blackjack rules of Quantum just follow the ones that you’ll already be familiar with.

Quantum Blackjack vs. Quantum Blackjack Plus – what are the differences?

When looking at Quantum Blackjack and Quantum Blackjack Plus, there are numerous differences to be aware of. We’ll consider the impact of these shortly, but for now, here’s an overview of what they actually are:

  • Rather than using eight decks, as had previously been the case, there are now six used in the game
  • The original version saw up to five cards being selected at the start of a round. This has now changed so that it’s three or five
  • When it comes to the value of the multiplier, all cards are now assigned the same. This can be 2.5x, 3x, 5x or 10x
  • Whereas before the maximum multiplier was as high as 1000x, it is now 50x
  • Rather than being multiplied together, multiple multiplier cards in one hand are now added together
  • Originally the RTP was 99.47%. This has now increased to 99.57%
  • Split cards can now be doubled
  • When it comes to side bets, the RTP has been reduced slightly

What do these changes mean for the game?

When a game is already pretty good, it can sometimes be a concern that, when providers start to tinker with them, the changes make the game a little worse. The phrase ‘If it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ comes to mind. However, in this case, there has been no harm done and in fact, the game is now more playable.

With each round, there are now always more multiplier cards available. While there are two fewer decks, the use of an auto shuffler means that this doesn’t really have much of an impact on the game.

While we’re huge fans of basic strategy, what’s exciting here is that you can deviate from this without putting your main hand at risk. That’s because there’s the opportunity to split a hand and gain a multiplier. This allows you to take choices that are a little riskier but that comes with higher rewards.

Should the changes be welcomed?

We’d say that the answer here is yes. Having enjoyed Quantum Blackjack previously, Quantum Blackjack Plus has a new feel to it and the changes tend to benefit the player, rather than the house.

We’re not fans of the rule of a Push with a dealer three-card bust. We’re also not thrilled with the fact that the initial stake is not returned with the payout if there is a multiplier in the hand. These things mean that the true odds aren’t as high as those that are advertised.

Where can Quantum Blackjack Plus be played?

If you want to try Quantum Blackjack Plus for yourself, you’ll find that you can enjoy it at all Playtech casinos. In fact, the updated version has now completely replaced the original meaning that there is no way of playing the old game. Keep an eye out in blackjack lobbies at your online casino and you’re sure to come across this version.

Final thoughts

Often an update can be a real mixed back and there is often a wish that game providers just hadn’t bothered. That’s not the case when it comes to Quantum Blackjack Plus. What Playtech has managed to achieve is to provide an update that has led to a great came becoming even better. With increased playability and overall enjoyment, we are left impressed with what Playtech has pulled off. This is a provider that always delivers and will continue to do so into the future.
